Originally started in 2010 in the kitchen of Melissa Satterfield, one determined and dedicated mom, as a means to buy an iPad for her nonverbal son, Cookies For iPads is a community based fundraising program designed to help people in the community not only get involved in autism fundraising and events, but also provide a valuable resource to children in need. When her son began to speak within weeks of receiving his iPad and learning to use it as a communication tool, Melissa realized that every nonverbal child on the spectrum needed to have one, and Cookies For iPads was born.
Make It Fit was so moved by Melissa’s determination and dedication that we have since taken on Cookies For iPads as an ongoing Make It Fit project to help kids all over the country. Cheryl’s Cookies & Brownies has been sponsoring Make It Fit events since 2006 and once we met the supporters of Cookies For iPads and Melissa, we made the obvious connection and merged our relationship with Cheryl’s with the countless moms, dads, and other family members in contributing to the success of this program by providing us with an incredibly generous supply of cookies for us to auction, raffle, or sell at our events.
As a team, we’ve been able to help provide over 200 iPads to nonverbal children with ASD through the Cookies For iPads program. Make ItFit will hopefully be partnering with Cheryl’s Cookies in the very near future to bring iPads to children in need nationwide. Our goal is to create a packaged fundraiser, giving parents, schools, therapy providers and everyone in between an opportunity to earn the iPads they need by selling Cheryl’s Cookies. We’re in the very beginning stages of working on this partnership, and will hopefully have updates and details to come very soon, so stay tuned.
